Sample coins don't have certificate numbers on them, they usually are not even graded, just made to show off the holders.

Looks nice. Doesn't it usually say SAMPLE somewhere on the slab though?

I wouldn't call it a sample slab (Although it MAY have been used as one) I would think it is more a promotional item that someone had PCGS make up for them. Or something like the "Brilliant Uncirculated" slabs that get slabbed for bulk submitters where the grade doesn't reach the minimum specified grade. The kind of thing the TV people sell sometimes I have seen it before and they are fairly recent. Note the 2007 copyright date on the back label.

Given the spike in silver prices that last 3-4 years I doubt that PCGS would be putting ANY silver in a sample slab unless someone was fronting the coins.

I think the latest sample giveaway that they did was the uncirculated ATB Quarters.

That looks like something the "Coin Vault" guys would sell...for $39.95, in 3 easy payments of $15.

Price has been falling for 18 months but a couple 20-30 dollar silver coins isn't going to break PCGS. They obviously arent going to be giving them away to everyone in the country but they arent down to their last few hundred dollars by any means

Even back when PCGS commonly used silver coins in their samples they used Roosevelt dimes.

Roosevelts may have been their most populat but I've seen a lot of 64 Kennedy halfs and 1921 Morgans as well
