It would probably be around the VF-30 mark in the sheldon system. They are often weakly struk to begin with. But agree theres no way its even close to VF by australian standards.

NO way this would make VF30 Sheldon, VG8 is a more likely description of this coin. The cleaning degrades the grade as well IMHO

Trout, I am the one that handles our items for sale, not Bobby. I thought you knew this. I did not grade this coin. It was graded by Dominion which is affiliated with David Lawrence Rare Coins. A little research would have revealed this. It is not my plan to ever start my own grading company because even if it was accurate, it would be trashed like everyone else's. How often do hear that SEGS has correctly graded a coin; and actually their grades are surprisingly accurate. Many dealers look specifically for these slabs to flip them over into NGC or PCGS at the same grade. To be straightforward with you, I am disappointed that you would post this on the forum instead of sending an email. Even if I had graded this coin incorrectly, I am human and make mistakes. It's a little hurtful to be called out like any common scammer on ebay.

Dominion Grading Service was the outfit which bought out PCI when that company went bust back in 2008, if I recall. PCI was one of the few "second-tier" grading services - not as widely respected as the Big Three, but not basement slabbers either. I'm not sure if DGS lasted long enough for it to acquire any particular reputation, but it didn't last long; their Google-fossilized homepage says they stopped accepting coins for grading in 2010. They simply couldn't fight ebay's refusal to recognize them as a legitimate TPG. Do a forum search for either DGS or the full name and you'll find plenty of threads about them. As for their opinion on this coin, well, it is what it is. I know it wouldn't grade that high here in Australia, and I know a top TPG wouldn't assign a grade due to the cleaning. But a coin graded VG-8 in America wouldn't have this much detail surviving; I've seen coins given a VG grade by the top-tier TPGs which I personally wouldn't assign much above "Poor".

Coin collecting is a very judgemental hobby. Unfortunately, some judge others instead of just coins...

The only thing I can think of when reading this is that someone has typed an F instead of a G on the label. After all they are next to each other on the keyboard.

The coin is accurately graded (by US standards). You should have a look at more 1915 threepence. They have weakly struck bands which wear quickly, you don't get a full band at the Fine level except on the earliest strikes.
Something I always advise, look at the whole coin, don't judge a coin by a single point because every coin is different, every coin wears differently and while grading by the band may be accurate for 90% of XF45 or lower coins, you'll still slip up on that 10%.

I am posting this in the forum to apologise for my lack of etiquette and on afterthought I should have simply emailed my concerns. Bobby and Susan ARE staunch people. All is good

Trout I saw the guy that originally sang that from Harold Melvin and the Blue notes sing that at a local bar karaoke night in Delaware County PA about 15 years ago. He was bagging groceries at a local Supermarket and helping the woman with the karaoke to make ends meet. Sad.
