Hello! My father has a Spanish 8R from 1778 which I know isn't too valuable. What I'm curious about is the fact that the nose, chin, and mouth are all "forward" double-stamped. I know that double-stamped coins are quite valuable, but I'm wondering how much value this coin from 1778 has. Anyone have a clue?

"I know that double-stamped coins are quite valuable..."

A little knowledge can be a bad thing? The effect is not that uncommon on your standard Mexico mint 8R of Charles III (I have a 1775 where the whole obverse is noticeably doubled... 1786 comes to mind, also, as a date where you see this a lot)... If it's just the fairly common slight doubling, there's really not much if any premium there. If it were significant, maybe a different story.

Here's the face. Take a look at the nose/chin/lips. They are extended slightly...

shanecox- Interesting pics of the face of the king. But would it be possible for you to post some pics of the entire obverse and reverse?

@Shanecox

If I am not mistaken that seems to be a double die. Please post complete high-resolution scans or pictures of both the reverse and the obverse so that we can provide an accurate valuation.

As a sidenote, errors on those ancient coins don't give more value, unlike what it does for modern ones.
I sometime see people mention "double struck", "not centered", "die break" as if it was something amazing on ebay : it's not ! :)

Double Profiles or Strike Doubling has created this error may have a premium. I do not recall seeing any double profiles in my travels. Not sure how much of a premium this would bring. Any error is tough to locate. In U.S. Large Cents a very small premium is given since the collector pool is LARGE.
Strike Doubling - "Often looks like a doubled die but is not. It is caused by loose dies that twist slightly after coming into contact with the planchet causing the die to slightly drag on the coin producing a flat, shelf-like doubled appearance. Also under this classification is excessive die wear and/or improper die annealing that will cause the elements of the design to appear doubled simply because the lettering and design elements are thick and mushy. Mechanical Doubling usually commands very little premium."

Perhaps not with this issue ...
