Absolutely not. Another lightly circulated Morgan ruined and worth melt value only in my opinion.

Definitely AT. You can obtain this kind of fake toning very easily. You need some sulfur(crushed matchheads), some shampoo(prell works great) and a small metal container. Place the coin in the solution and cook in your oven at about 400 degrees for 3 minutes or so.

Jake1050, toning definition Quote:toning The term for the color seen on many coins. There are infinite shades, hues, and pattern variations seen, the result of how, where, and how long a coin is stored. Every coin begins to tone as it leaves the die, as all United States coins contain reactive metals in varying degrees. There is a big difference between NT, natural toning and AT, artificial toning. Hope this helps. There is a lot of debate on telling the difference here at CCF. Hit Search Coin Community upper left for more info.

Isn't there anyway to save this coin and let it tone naturally over a period of time, or has the damage been done? What about keeping it as a pocket piece?

Kopper Ken I would be a great pocket piece! But I am sure one could be located for much less than $85.00

Quote: Isn't there anyway to save this coin and let it tone naturally over a period of time, or has the damage been done? What about keeping it as a pocket piece? She's dead, Jim. Toning on a circulated coin - as this one obviously is - is an immediate red flag. The only way out for this mistreated Morgan is a long time in your pocket, for physical contact with other coins to remove the toning by abrasion. Any other method will destroy any collector value, not that this one has much.
