This week I bought a small collection including some IHC.. This evening when looking at the 1897 cent in my album, if the 'new' one 'out-graded' the 'old' one.. I noticed a straight line in the neck, a quick Google search learned me something on this variety..

This looks to me as the real deal, but not sure... I think it's worth some dancing fruits..

It sure looks like the real deal. This is one of the more desirable IHC varieties. (Snow 1- base of the digit '1' in the neck). Nice coin.

Snow-1 she is.

That puppy carries a substantial premium. Fruit is definitely in order.

Thanks all..
The fun thing is that a had this coin for 4 years or so..
When I start collecting and the 1st few years I never looked at the coins with a loupe.. The last 2 or 3 years I look at all the coins what pass my hands.. I found a lot of doubled dies (world coins) and varieties in 'cheap' lots..

I have another 40 'unseen' IHC, is there a website where I can find all the varieties? Or where I can find a list with 'Snow' varities?

Rick Snow at Eagle Eye Rare Coins sells an attribution guide which describes in great detail all the FE and IHC varieties. If I remember right he sells an online version and a printed version. I believe you can buy the total volume or individual years. If you are really into IHC and FE varieties I highly recommend the guide.

The Snows that carry quite a premium in the lower grades would be this 1897 Snow 1 and the 1894 RPD (not sure of Snow number)
Most of the other varieties would need to be in the high AU to MS to carry a significant premium.

I agree. The 1897 IHC S-1 is fairly common in the lower grades. You can probably find 15 -20 on ebay for sale right now. The variety is a lot scarcer in the higher grades, esp. the reds and red browns, thus the higher premium.
