I posted this under another subject but decided to start a new thread since the older subject is a little outdated at thoint and doesn't seem to be drwaing any attention. So with your good graces I will post this again.

Have been thinking hard about the Presidential spouse coins and was looking for more opinions on these coins. Now that they will be available individually I might be able to afford just one.

There is one that looks particulary intersting and that is the 3rd Spouse Coin. As far as I know this will be a historical first in naming Lady Liberty a First Spouse?

If any of you had only one choice among the four which one would it be?

Thanks and good meeting all of you.

If I was buying just one it would have to be Adams but only because she was married to my distant cousin. As it is I don't think I can afford any!

To say anything negative about the idea you run the risk of coming off as an anti feminist. These are the cards history has dealt us with all the spouses (to date) being female so I will say this. I really can't see what the attraction of these coins? medals? would be. Just my opinion.
Rest in Peace

Agreed.

I'd have no interest, even if I could afford them.

I hate to say it, but I don't think the Presidents' wives should be on gold coins. The important part of the couple was the President and that was who we voted for, so shouldn't he be on the gold coins with the wives on a secondary metal like silver? With a few exceptions, the first ladies haven't done a whole lot that is noteworthy and certainly not worth putting all of them on gold coins.

I'm sure that this was done as a pro-feminist gesture, but I absolutely disagree with it. I think it would have made more sense to put the Vice Presidents on coins than the wives.

Just my opinion (though not so humble. )

Too expensive and just a way to steal more more from our wallets. They aren't a commem so why not sell them at spot?

Proofs are never sold at spot price and they are part of a commemorative program, just like the State Quarters and Presidential dollars.

If I could afford it the only one I would get would be the 'Lady Liberty'.

And I agree with Susan wholeheartedly.

Uggghhhhh.

I also think this is a reach. If it is in fact an attempt to placate the feminist movement, then I am even more appalled. If recognizing women was the intent, lets pay tribute to individuals who's accomplishments are deserving. I personally nominate my mom. Anyone who can raise me and my three sisters has to be a saint.

The word "feminist" has been turned into a bad word like "liberal"

well as a liberal when I hear the word feminist I think of my beautiful wife, mother of two children, who think woman have the right to vote, to speak and be heard, equal pay, and the choice over there own lives.

I'll take a feminist woman over a submissive woman anytime.
