What non-essential spending items have you cut out of your budget so that you can expand your numismatic budget and afford to purchase more coins?
Thought that this could be a fun topic!
Personally I have,
1. Been eating out less frequently: Pack my lunch for work almost every day. Not spending $5+ each day for fast food adds up quickly! 2. Postponed purchasing a new car: My old car is reliable and as long as it gets me from point A to point B I don't see a reason to replace it. My father is a mechanic so that helps. 3. Got a less expensive cell phone plan and dumped satellite television: Not feeling the pain so far! 4. Try to buy things second hand at garage sales, auctions, and thrift stores: Often you can find almost new items or items of better quality than you would be purchasing for a fraction of the price! I know this is not for everyone but I purchase most of my clothing second hand ..... just find rummage sales in higher end areas of town and you would be surprised at what is discarded.

If you drink alcohol or a lot of soda, cut those down or drink them for special occasions.
Slowly sell off duplicates if you have any.

My thoughts: Go to CA (collectors anonymous)!
But hey, whatever floats your boat. I personally think having a small budget is good -you really think hard before going for something.
Thing Id cut: Heating/Cooling. Put on more clothes, or less clothes. Foolproof!

I've gone in a slightly diferent direction. Since I decided to largely use gifted cash and money that I get from husehold recycling to fund my numismatic habit, I've taken to recycling more things. Instead of just CRV stuff, I recycle paper, non-crv aluminum, tin cans, and scrap metal from the ranch that I know a local recycling center will pay cash for.

Definitely stopped eating out/fast food as much. I use the jar method: if I wanted to go out and get something and I can resist, the money that would have been spent goes in the jar for coins.

A really good saving trick I have found is just refuse to spend any 5.00 bills you get. At the end of the year this can add up to quite a bit.

I have always had a reasonable numismatic budget, because I have never had to pay rent. Actually, skinny wives are cheaper to feed!
So are skinnier ME's! Almost never eat cakes, biscuits, desserts, candy or drink pop or beer. Don't eat out much, and stay away from fast food joints. Don't eat unless I'm hungry, and stop eating when I have had enough. My wife was responsible for family nutrition. That means I cost a lot less.

Sure not drinking less soda and eating less fast food sound good, regardless. If you are have financial issues, perhaps selling some coins you are tired of might not be a bad idea. At least you will enjoy a rotation of coins. Perhaps if you are smart at it you can turn a small profit and not feel a financial strain.

Well I save as much money as possible I work a number of hours a week and live at home (still at school) so I just save practically everything I make for my coin collection apart from a meal out or a game every month or so

Perhaps if you are smart at it you can turn a small profit and not feel a financial strain. this week I was contacted by a collector who had an interesting coin he was going to put on ebay. He emailed me first to identify it and get an idea of value. When I saw the photos I had to have it ( only 7-10 known to exist) even though I already have one. He knew it was rare....I offered him the same price I paid in 2007/8 (the last time one came to the market) for the one I already have and he accepted. I didn't want to raid the rainy day money store so I sold two ozs of NCLT gold to buy it. It certainly wasn't what I had wanted to do but I am reminded of the parable about the pearl dealer.....sells every thing to get the pearl beyond price! I wouldn't want to do it on a regular basis.....but when necessary it lets you have your "cake and eat it"

1. Stop taking shwers and/or baths. Eventually you'll smell bad and at coin stores or shows, dealers will charge less just to get rid of you. 2. Take othes to coin shows or stores and always ask them to pay for gas. 3. Eating out at fast food places could actually save you money. People for some reason fail to remember making food at home requires food that has to be thrown out, water used to wash dishes, soap used to wash dishes, gas for the hot water tank for hot water to wash dishes. Also, occationally replaced broken dishes, towels, napkins and on and on with stuff used for eating at home. 4. Constantly envite yourself to relatives homes for free food also helps with the eating problem. 5. Wear the same cloths as much as possible. Eventually they and you will smell. See number 1 above. Also, no need to buy new cloths as often. 6. Stop using toothpaste and mouth washes. Same results as 1. abobe. 7. OR do none of the things people reply, blow as much money as possible on coins. You would find you will have less to spend on food, loose weight, be happier.

Haha Just carl that was quite amusing. Anyway you could also add Renting out your house and staying at a relatives house or prehaps even selling it off and then just living at a relatives house
