There is a raised ring around the Memorial statue that was obviously part of the minting process. At first I thought it was another BOC DDR until I looked closer and saw it was almost perfectly round. I also noted that the "RTY" in "LIBERTY" seemed a little off (besides the obvious Machine Doubling) so I included a pic of it as well. Has anyone ever seen this error before and does anyone have an idea as to what caused it? I appreciate your help and all opinions are welcomed. Thanks.

Curious. Looks like Lincoln got pounded with a grommet.

The RTY looks like it took a hit. You can see a color difference. Looks like what ever hit it started at the bottom right leg of the "R" and the top of the "T" and left arm of the "Y"

The Circle in the Memorial Bay is raised? The only thing I can think of would be lathe lines. (total guess)

Will weight for others to chime in :)

I've seen this before. But it must be die damage, nothing in the design looks like this, so it not a doubled die. I wondered about if it is lathe lines, but not many thought it was that. So it is still not determined what it is. So I would hold onto them. Later someone may have a theory.

Is any part of the statue, inside the circle, out of alignment?

Nope, everything looks to be correctly aligned. The circle also runs up the side of the 6th column without altering it.

Raised rings and semicircles in the same area have been reported on a number of dies, beginng around the turn of the millenium. Their cause has not been ascertained.
