I am fascinated by the description of this heavily cleaned common date coin.
"*CAREFULLY, HAND POLISHED*BY PROFESINAL,,,*SEALD****au,condition"
and does that slab label really read "Professional Coin Collecting Box"?
ebay never fails to amaze me.

Duh! Didn't even notice that at the bottom of the description - just glanced quickly at the pictures. That answers that... thanks.

One thing, though... aside from silliness like this (and reading through the listing now, that IS about the bottom of the barrel)... there is PLENTY of great stuff on ebay (today actually happened to be a BANNER day for me buying... just some great material). It is just about THE only game in town (essentially a monopoly, amazingly enough) for direct buyer-seller transactions, so it indeed does draw all of the idiots and some schemers (who most sensible people can generally learn to avoid)... BUT it also draws anyone and everyone else looking to actively sell and buy normal collector-level material.

"Professional coin collection box" -- "PCCB"!!

And it might be polished by a professional...

...but at least it's a sexy professional!

I agree completely with you. ebay has become the world wide version of a local swap meet of the old school style where people used to bring whatever they wanted to get rid of and one mans trash was truly another mans treasure. And you are right, it is the premier "seller to buyer" coin exchange where the dealer middleman is often bypassed. In the past I have bought many coins (and other items like Disney maps, Marx toys and reference books), and I still watch on a sporadic basis, as time permits. I also unfortunately have had a few sour transactions but they all worked out in the end. Congratulations on your recent good buys.
What fascinates me about ebay is the "fringe" items and mislabeled items and the down right "strange" items that sell on that site. Now I need ot go find that professional ping pong paddle and get my bid in.
