Hi everyone, I saw this auction on ebay and am curious to know what everyone's opinion is. I was a bit alerted due to the low price the coin went for: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Republic-Of...p=true&rt=ncI tried matching it against the PCGS picture and it seems to match (almost) but I have some reservations! Cheers

The coin pictured looks undoubtedly genuine, nice original skin... and is a definite match to the photo shown on the PCGS cert lookup. Shouldn't be any doubt about that part. Apparently, people saw FB of (4) and a Chinglish description and reacted accordingly... Rather than fearing a fake coin in a fake slab, or a real coin in a fake slab... the worry here is about a bait and switch, especially given that he auctioned the same slab 10 days earlier (when it hammered for what it should bring): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Republic-Of...221278126656It is curious to note that the photos of some of his other stuff (which generally looks legit) seem to be of the same style, as if the person has access to these coins and is indeed photographing them.

Thanks realeswatcher for your reply.
Yeah the past auction was a bit of a red flag. I was (un) fortunate enough to win this one so should be able to tell once it arrives if its legit.
To be honest I did type Skeptical first but for some reason it didnt look quite right!

Will do, thanks again, I'll post some pictures (if) when the coin arrives.

I think is IS genuine, but the coin should be checked for weight, when received. Cannot be checked for weight, without breaking the slab.
What NEEDS to be known: What is the weight of an empty slab? The whole lot can then be weighed, to determine the weight of the coin.

Yeah thats true Sel_69l, I have coins slabbed in the same slab as this one that I know are genuine so I should be able to estimate from that.
Is there a resource for slab weights? Id imagine pcgs would br a bit reluctant to hand out that sort of information.

The weight depends on the size of the white holder inside ... so it's not even that easy to get a generic weight from a broken holder.

Just as a quick follow-up. The coin never arrived and I was re-funded by PayPal!

Ouch ... OK ... :/ At least the buyer's protection worked as expected.

Why pick on a member for using an alternative (and being British I think perfectly acceptable) spelling of sceptical. This is after all an international forum and I would never personally pull any one up when using, say, color instead of colour.
