I've talked to one of the employees at the 7-11 here and he's had folks pay with Morgan dollars to fund their beer and/or cig habits. He gotten several for face there. Awesome score, though, smokeriderdon!

Sean, on one hand I agree with you, but on the other hand there is this. Someone who is 30 or younger or not originally from this country really has no reason to know that coins prior to 65 were silver. So unless you are older and grew up with silver coins circulating, or are a collector or have parents that have taught you, I can see how someone would not know. It is sad, but understandable. And I am happy to benefit.

Smoke, probably just coincidence, but I had a yardsale this weekend.
An older gentleman, likely of middle eastern descent(i am not trying to stereotype), purchased a bunch of fake flower arrangements. He paid with a few dollar bills, then also a hand full of change including a 1916 Mercury dime.

Maybe its the same guy? Most likely not, but pretty interesting, considering we live in the same town...

Trust me, I wish I had stumbled onto that lot, but I won't be seeking out every 7-11 in northern va... That wouldn't be cool at all.

Who in their crazy right mind would even consider using these as face value currency?

Many people under the age of 40 who have never seen a silver coin in circulation.. If they aren't into coins they see it as just another coin and have no reason to know the metal it is made of is worth much more than the face value.
