I picked up this Type Five Seated dime and wanted to see what the CCF Members have think in comparison to PCGS. Thank you for your interest! (PCGS Image) Edited by oih82w8 10/01/2013 2:10 pm

It looks to be around XF 40 to me as it seems the smaller the seated coin the less detail for the grade. Maybe it's just looking through the plastic but the strike seems a little weak so it very well may grade higher.

I agree, low AU. Is that a digit in the denticles?

Quote: Is that a digit in the denticles? Whatever do you mean? I am not trying to make more out of this than what it is, but what is going on with underneath (not below) the "9"? Underneath the lower loop looks almost filled.

It almost looks like a F-107.

Quote: It almost looks like a F-107. Looks exactly like an F-107 to me Nice variety and super nice luster still present would give it a minimum of AU, the strike is fairly weak so that would hold it back along with the small scratches on the reverse, It also looks like it was lightly cleaned from the dark spots reappearing afterwards, though I don't think it warrants any detail grade. A solid AU50 IMO, very nice Seated dime I won't be surprised to see it in an AU53 holder, I would be surprised to see it detailed or any lower than AU.

Definite strike weakness. Luster is evident and there seems to be underlying wear, not much though.
AU50 sounds about right.

I'm going with EF details. Lightly cleaned and the digs on the right leg as well as graffiti on the reverse above the ONE

From the grade given, it has been determined by PCGS to be a weak strike, but what a nice variety (R4) - TOP 100 Variety in the Seated dime Series!

I am going to guess EF-45 but would not be at all surprised to see it with a low AU grade.

One thing I have learned is guessing the grade is only the first step of assessing the coins you post.
