Poll Question
I have a chance to trade 90% coin (dimes, quarters & halves) for .999 billion generic rounds, ounce for ounce (ASW).

What kind of .999 bullion? Governmental bullion is usually worth a higher premium than junk silver, but American junk silver is worth a higher premium than unrecognized generic rounds. Is the idea that you get 9.9% extra silver by trading 90% for .999 literally by weight, or is this by ASW?

If by ASW, even considering the loss due to coins being worn, coins all the way. I'm not even sure why is this even a question. If by weight (i.e. there's 10% more silver to get), I might consider it if the coins are particularly bad, but even then I'm not exsctly sure.

I voted for .999, simply because I'm assuming (for argument's sake) that I'm not talking collector coinage here in either case, this is purely for investment/speculation. And .999 rounds/ingots take up less space, and weigh slightly less, than .900 fine coinage.
Finding .900 fine coinage around here isn't easy; our silver coins are either .925, .500 or .800 fineness. But the point still holds. It's more efficient to store the highest purity possible.
Of course, it's even more efficient to store gold rather than silver.

I'd make the trade. If anything, those who will hold 90% as bulk will also hold .999, yet the opposite isn't always true - some people who'll hold .999 don't want junk silver. Therefore, your .999 will ultimately be more liquid than the 90%.

As was noted, if this was for ASEs or something like that I would consider it, I would just like to have the coins around. Of course, it all depends on why you are keeping them or not. I would keep the coins just because I do like to trade and it would probably be easier to trade the 90% for most people.

Ill be in the minority and say keep the coins. Like mentioned if it was for an ASE or another government minted round I would do it in a heart beat, but for generic rounds Id rather have the junk silver. I always prefer government minted things over generic though with very few exceptions.

Totally my personal preference:
I like old 90% silver coins.
I dislike generic silver rounds.

I honestly thought this would go the other way. I still haven't made up my mind as of yet. I filled some holes & upgraded a couple in my Danscos. So, with the extra's I have it comes to 30.3825 ozs. There are some good reasons posted for each case. And, yes the majority says keep the 90%. I give it a couple more days to see if the scales tip. Thank You All

I voted to keep the .900. Gotta agree with Prof Liz....generic rounds are unappealing. Everyone recognizes the .900 coins. There cant be any appreciable difference in liquidity. imo

Are there any shipping costs or taxes involved?

Quote: Are there any shipping costs or taxes involved? No, It's a local person. Maybe 10-15 ride. Basically a meet & greet. Quote: I like old 90% silver coins. If I make the deal. I will be trading Rosie dimes, Wash quarters, & Ben halves. Nothing older than 1932.
