Year 1988... I think it's from Iraq, 1000 fils.

The mountain over "1000" is Mount Damavand, the highest volcano in Asia and the highest mountain in Iran. It also appears on the 10,000 rial note.

Or instead of magic, it could be because the Canadian mint makes (or made) coins for Iran. It could of got out of the mint into Canadian circulation and traveled to the US.

There are many Iran born people, that are currently living in the U.S.A.

My early days in the Air Force, we were training Iranian and Iraqi military.
That was the late 70's. In more current times, we still have military all over the globe.

Also there were many Iranian's attending school here.

And of course in better times there were tourist.

Many of them could have brought coins here.
