Just checking out this ebay auction

190935029222

Seller lists a 2005 with "NO COATING"?

Can anyone comment on this. What do you think after looking at his pics?

thanks

It looks like a fairly ordinary 2005 CPZ to me. Not sure what the coating comment is in reference to.

By coating they have removed the lustre. To me it looks like the coin was dipped in a vinagar salt mixture then baking soada was rubbed on it....

Love the handwritten MS-64. What a surprise, I have a PR71.5 quadruple die donkey punch 1963 Kennedy half!

Looks like a normal (zinc or no P) business strike to me... you can see the lines of the plating effect on the coin... The zinc-cored coins tend to have more squared rims than their steel-cored counterparts...

I am a coin novice, but it doesn't look 'natural' to me. Note how the lines on the obverse disappear in the one-o'clock to 2-o'clock positions. To me it looks like that is where the coin was held/clamped while some 'work' was done on it.

Otherwise, as mentioned, stating the condition as MS64 on a raw coin is in ebay violation. (I personally wouldn't give it an AU).

I only see two pics of the reverse, no obverse at all. Grading is an art based on an educated opinion and writing it on the cardboard flip I dont believe is in any violation. Why would it be? With that said I have plenty of pennies that look totally similar to that one. It could lose its shine simply by sitting under water long enough.

reply from the seller was "it has a dull finish, not shiny. comment was written on 2x2 by another collector"

at 99 cents plus $1.95 shipping, I would say overpriced by about $2.93

Sorry, I meant the REVERSE.

Before I found this forum, I've spent countless hours on the ebay coin forums over the past year, learning as much as possible about the hobby. One of the things I do know that ebay does not allow NUMERIC grades in any listing unless the grade is given by an approved slabber (PGCS, NGC, etc). Writing "MS" on a 2x2 is ok, but the "64" is in violation.

What if MS70 was written on the 2x2? Would that still be ok?

I believe this policy was made so noobies would have a lesser chance of getting hi-jinked from an overblown grade (buying a 65, getting a 50).

atticguy,those rules are for Americans.
If you are a Canadian seller registered on ebay.ca ,listing a Canadian coin for sale in Canadian dollars you can almost always put a grade in the title with impunity.
