Recent raw coin purchase.. May have to send this one in. Sold to me as: EF 1832 "Large Letters" O-101 Capped Bust Half Edited to add: After further discussion this has been determined to be the Small Letters variety.. Nice coin though, any thoughts appreciated. Edited by Night-Hawk 10/26/2013 06:07 am

My opinion is AU-50 or 53, I do see wear but still a very nice coin!

The Large Letter variety has a large die break across the eagles right wing (viewers left) while it is absent on the small letter variety. According to the text on the PCGS CoinFacts page this is always present. It is visible on the comparison image above. Unfortunately, it seems absent on your coin. This caused me to check my 1832 half dollars. I have two of them, and both were labeled as large letters. I now see that they are both small letters I am always learning something Sorry, I don't have pictures of them yet. Even if I did, the pictures probably would not be very good using my little camera.

A crack is there, just not as strong as 2nd photo, which is an O-101a..
Also note there is much more separation between the "50 C" and the eagle claws on the Large Letters example than on my coin..
After a closer look this is obviously Small Letters, thanks much for the input.

on board with west and fade. looks artificially toned. I can call the method in all likelihood but dont want to talk about the things we do not talk about so i'll leave well enough alone.
If you can truly spot the difference in hand than send it in, but if you are unable to then air on the side of caution, send it back and let your money live to fight another day. you can find specimens out there.

Good advice, well taken. Agree, looks "fried", will see.. Chalk one up to experience. Appreciate all the input!
