Hello to all, I just picked this coin up in a trade for three Morgans. I really like the eye appeal and was wondering if
(a. Is it genuine
(b. was it worth three common Morgans (around $100)

Please let me know what you think....

Looks real too me and has a nice strike and honest wear. I'm pretty sure it's worth 3 Morgans.

Hello Raybutler
I am sorry but I think the coin looks wrong. The design is too mushy and indistinct and the surfaces appear to be very porous. Do you have access to an accurate scale. Try weighing the coin and let us know the weight. Also nice clear pictures of the edge would help, edges are often a give away for a counterfeit coin. My preliminary vote is fake.

Sorry to say, but I believe this coin is a counterfeit. The lettering does not look right, among other things.

The coin looks fake to me as well. A clear picture of the edge would greatly help.

The coin weighs 24.3 grams, so it's too light. I'm going to try and get my Morgans back, wish me luck.

As people have already mentioned - it's a fake. Best way is to compare it side by side with an original. Here's one I recently picked-up - just by comparing one side, notice the sharpness in the detail in the waves, globes, crowns, etc...
