Besides me, who here thinks that the U.S. Mint should strike four new design Kennedy halves for general circulation, or at least, for collector bags and rolls, and ditto on a final new design on the 2015 Kennedy half and beyond? Does anyone want to write Congress and talk to the Mint about it, and voice their opinion? (I know some of you are going to say "The half is not in general circulation anymore" but neither is the dollar coin, and they are STILL producing FIVE new dollar coin designs each year, and the $2 bill is "barely" into circulation anymore, yet it is slated for a redesign in about a decade or so, when the Meaningful Access currency redesign starts in 2020 with the $10 bill. But we still don't know which place the $2 bill will be redesigned in, but it would probably be the last denomination to get the redesign, and hopefully they'll pass legislation to redesign the $1 bill as well, if we don't replace it with a coin by then) Please help me get more than just a few coin sets with new design Kennedy halves, and try to get bags, rolls and even boxes made for people who want to buy, search, and spend new design Kennedy halves. The Kennedy half and Roosevelt dime, along with the $1 bill SHOULD get a redesign, are they are our oldest design current currency. (I would mention the $2 bill, but as I said, that denomination is already slated for a redesign. Its just very far off) Thank You to all that can help my cause. Edited by Fox 11/10/2013 6:26 pm

The idea of a redesign is nice, and I would rather it go back to a "liberty" design. As for 2014 though....not enough time left for a design change for the 50th.

there is no way FDR will be taken off the dime thanks to him establishing the March of Dimes in the fight against polio... today hardly anyone see any effects of polio ... its almost a forgotten disease.

Well, as far as I, as well as many others here know, there IS something special for the Kennedy half in 2014. We just don't know quote what yet. Also, as I recall reading, the 1964 Kennedys for the first year of the Kennedy half, which they started minting in 1963, so anything is possible. But wouldn't you think people would buy bags and rolls to search for errors, at the very least? I hope they suprise us all with something like that. And if they do go through a redesign, I hope they put out educational materials at banks and credit unions for the new design(s). (There I go, babbling my nonsense again)

With the Roosevelt dime, change the reverse, not the obverse. Something more akin to the Barber and Mercury dimes. We should take the LIBERTY of the merc and put it on the obverse and take the olive and oak branches and turn them into a wreath like the Barber. Just a thought. Please, no more multiple design coins. The State Quarters were nice, but then the Presidential dollars and now the ATB? Come on, go back to regular coinage. Now it is just an annoying promotional stunt.

As far as everything I have researched....there has been zero approval to modify the Kennedy half design for 2014...so based on that, for the true 50¢ piece, all the mint can legally do is toy around with the finish. As for a gold coin or silver commerative dollar...that is a far more open subject to designs. Not to be a party pooper though, but those of us hoping for something new with the half design... the mint doesn't have the legal approval to do it for 2014...sorry :(

I agree with extra long coin redesign programs that go on for a decade or so, but I was okay with the 2009 Lincoln Cent four coin issue, then the permanent shield design in 2010, and I was also okay with the Jefferson nickel's 2004-2006 redesigns, but I hate the way we've had so many quarter designs that never seem to stop. After one program ends, another begins. And having not one, but TWO $1 coin series makes no sense and is annoying. But then, this is coming from a guy that proposed a half or $2 coin series featuring famous dogs with four different dog designs for nine years straight. Now, I would just settle for a 2014 four coin Kennedy half series for 2014, then a permanent design for 2015-2063 and do something special for the 100th anniversary of the Kennedy half, if it is around that long.
