I still haven't done any Half Cents in my 7070 because I want nice specimens like that not an ugly G or VG holder. If I found a filler for a dollar or two I'd do it but thats it. I am thinking of upgrading my Barber quarter today though, I love doing multiple type sets allows me to upgrade and pass down sets as my 7070 will be my premier set when I get done. That is a gorgeous Half Cent I love it.

There is just something about a Half Cent that scream "commerce" in days gone bye, when half a cent was actually worth something...

This weekend there are 2 coin shows near me. I fully intend on buying at least one good upgrade or quality addition to one of my sets. I really want to finish another page in the 7070 Half Cents and or maybe Shield nickels might just do the trick. I have an extra hundred I can spend this weekend...I sold 4 huge boxes of 80s GI Joe this weekend. turned right around and bought this beauty for 65 along side a 13 ASE for 24. WOOT...I'm ready for the show this weekend.

I am totally that way too do you upgrade or do you finish a page. I have just 4 coins needed to finish the second page of the 7070, bust Half Dime, Seated Liberty half dime with motto, Seated Liberty dime with arrows and Seated Liberty dime no motto. I mean in a F-XF grade on those coins I could easily finish that page for $100-200 depending on what grades I went with (just looked it up if I did a F on the capped bust Half Dime and xfs on the other three it would just be $186). Or do you upgrade. I go back and forth constantly or I work on my little boys whitman 20th century album I am doing. A lot of the time I can buy an upgrade for my set and pass on my downgrade to his set so its like filling two albums (I only have 7 coins to go to finish his set though and of those 7 only two are going to be an upgrade off my set). So yesterday I bought a nice 1901 VF Barber quarter for my set and passed on my 1908 VG Barber to his set. Once I finish his set I am going to start a 20th Century album for my new baby boy though so more chances to upgrade I already picked 5 coins from 7070 I will upgrade and pass onto his set. I am also thinking of doing every single type of type album out there (whitman, intercept shield, littleton) and just turning my 7070 into my ultimate album and using my downgrades from that album to fill the other albums. Good luck at the coin show I wish we had them here the closest are in Vegas a 2 hour drive.

mrwisker: In the book "American Half Cents" by Roger S. Cohen, Jr, the 1832 year has three varieties. Variety 2 is most easily diagnosed by the highest leaf under the E of STATES on the reverse. Other varieties show the leaf tip below the S. Another good resource is a booklet by Gregory S. Heim. "Quickfinder For Attributing Varieties of Business Strike United States Half Cent: 1793-1857"

Skunked today GRRR. Money in my pocket looking to get some slabbed ASE and add to my 7070 and possibly fill in my first page. Just My luck...The show I really really wanted to get to, and I have to work ... but you gotta may hay while the sun shines. Well there is tomorrow and the second of the 2 shows. Then nothing till next year.

Hit the second show today...and...no type additions. OH well, I will have many other chances along the way. After all it is the thrill of the hunt. BUT...I did add a 14s 15s and a 24d Wheaties and several State Quarter proof sets (hardly classics, but will fill the book)
