Recent acquisition. This one has tons of luster left under the toning present. Really shines in hand. What do you all think? Stars retain their detail, spots of wear on the highest points. No distracting marks from circulation. Also note that there isn't a scratch to the left, its a die crack running from the boulder to the rim and also one through the left stars.

I'd say it goes AU-50 or so. Certainly a nice looking quarter!

VERY nice! Lots of details and sweet strike!

Some highpoint rubs on the obverse Liberty so I'm going with AU-50.

I bought this coin at auction (the photos above are from the auction), and really liked it as EF45. In hand, it is much much better than I expected. There really are no blemishes to this coin, and even the tiny die crack that runs through the date, up to the boulder, around the boulder, towards the rim, and through all the stars to the left of Liberty, is sharp and clear, no wear on it at all, and it's a really tiny crack. The reverse also gives it a real shot at AU50 in my opinion. The eagles feathers are unworn, so to the arrow feathers.

It was slabbed by NGC. Needless to say, I won't be resubmitting it, but I was curious as to the opinions of our experts here. I have seen coins that look much worse than this with the same grade on the slab. CAC didn't even give this one a sticker (which to me was a positive)

Missed this on myself, I think the grade is pretty spot on. The coolest thing is the provenance to Col. Green!! Very cool.

I would say XF45 all day long and maybe AU50. XF 40 is too low IMHO.

No luster = no better than 45, imho.

Those are the HA.com shots before they were slabbed, you can tell by the lack of prongs in the image. There's a thread on the PCGS forums that shows how overexposed the HA.com images are compared to the in-hand look of the coins, it's a travesty. I really hope you saw this coin in-hand before buying it or you are going to be disappointed, here's an example lifted from that thread since CC doesn't allow linking to PCGS;

FadeToBlack, you are 100% correct about the photographs used by the auction house, and fortunately I knew that going into it and relied more on the photos showing the coin in the slab then those color saturated pre-slab photos. The photos of the coin in the slab was the best way to get an idea about the color, and even that wasn't great. It helps if you know the series and you know what to look for. As for my particular coin, here are some additional photos from myself. I hope folks understand the difficulties in bad lighting of taking a picture of luster through a plastic window. It's not easy. These are the best I could do. The coin is quite nice in hand, way better than the auction photos. Luster is still present, its not dull and gray and non-reflective. I'm not unhappy with the grade, or the coin, or the purchase. It is a great coin to start off my abridged version of a seated liberty type set (6 coin short set covering all major designs across all 6 denominations)
