Today marks my 10th year of collecting. I thought I'd post my personal collection of Canadian 1c. I have only purchased 2 (technically 1...the other was a trade) in this collection, all were found from roll searching on and off through the years. Lately it's all but dried up in my area (I found 3 in the last 5 boxes). But I'll continue the hunt or end up buying the ones I'm missing soon. I am missing roughly 24 to complete. The main ones are the rare/scarce/expensive ones, 54 NSF Proof, 55 NSF, '85 Pointed, 2006P Non-Magnetic etc.. The others missing are neat varieties I'd like to have ('62 Guitar, '64 Extra Spine, Double 69, some hangers etc..) The collection does not include proofs or specimens. I was lucky enough to find a '69PL with a nice cameo recently. I only have one other, the 1997 W (I purchased that one.) There are 267 coins total in this collection. The collection is complete date-wise...besides the important ones mentioned above. All coins are in airtites and I have an excel spreadsheet listing the varieties and errors. I really dislike slabbed coins (that doesn't mean I don't have any), it just means I don't really care for the look of them. Pros and Cons of the trays: Pros - - I love the look and prefer this over albums - Easily fits into my safe (stacked) - Light and moisture free - Replacing/Upgrading/Finding is a snap Cons - -Cost (I have more invested in supplies then the collection) Trays are about $8-10 each depending on when and where -Adding a coin...this is a pain, if I find a neat variety or coin say from the 50's that I would like to keep, I have to add a slot and then move each coin after it 1 space over...not a big deal, but a bit annoying. The collection will never be complete...there is always something I'd like to have or upgrade I'd love to have! I am currently completing Canada nickels and then upgrading my wheat cents the same way...which is much larger than this. ...the hunt continues. Anyway enough blabber...sorry I don't have individual pics of each coin or tray (I only posted the 1st tray (1920-1942)...maybe someday...but my picture taking skills are not so good.

Beautiful! And while you might never finish it, it does have an end - you'll never have to add another penny after 2012's.

Now that's something! I want to make something like this for my (modern) Canadian quarters, as I'm sick of my "un-safe" booklets. There are so many varieties and colours, it would look very pretty.

Congratulations on your fine accomplishment !! Your collection looks very striking in those trays, may I ask where you got your trays? I'd love to buy something like that for my coins, it makes a beautiful display piece and is neat and tidy! A major accomplishment finding all those Canadian pennies while roll searching in the US. I find the odd US coin in change but then I'm 8 hrs from the border maybe more. It encourages me to roll search for US quarters, I like the quarters that the states are currently minting. How far along are you in your nickel collection. I just got a 1978 D nickel in change today, so some US coins are floating around the prairies.

Thank you! I am not too far south of the border a lil' over 2 hours, finding Canadian change is/or rather used to be fairly easy and my personal bank has a Canadian teller that saves all pennies and nickels for me. Also the wife and I travel to Vancouver (Coal Harbor & Whistler) at a minimum of at least once a year. I believe I have all nickels from 1922 to current except for the 1926 far 6 and 1947 dot. I haven't really dug into them yet, but fairly confident I have capsuled a complete collection minus the above 2. I know I have 2 25's. Quote: may I ask where you got your trays? I am not sure if we are allowed to post links to specific stores. But they are Guardhouse Wood Coin Trays for Air-Tite Size A Capsules. Google that and you should find 3 places right off the top. They are $8.99 a piece if you search hard enough. They are often out of stock though, seems they are popular for 1c's. Thank you again for the comments. I thoroughly love this hobby!

Thank you for posting. You have a beautiful collection. I'm curious about the holders. Can you place the coins into the holders or do they come already sealed (like TPG coins)? What about removing a coin from the holder?

That is a very elegant way to present coins and makes us think back to the good old days of collectors "coin cabinets".
Thanks for posting here,...and good luck with the remaining searches..

Very Cool trays, Thanks for the lead. I could use some for my coins in cheap looking holders. I used to roll hunt when there was silver coins and drive to Vancouver and load up on rolls, when picking was good

Quote: makes us think back to the good old days of collectors "coin cabinets" DEVLEC - Funny I have been scoping those "coin cabinets" for years. WOW they are pricey though! They are super popular in the U.K. and I've seen some amazing ones! Would love to have one someday! I'll probably do something with these trays similar to what DM1975 did here... https://goccf.com/t/109773I did price out a custom made cabinet from a local woodworking shop awhile back...this route was way more cost friendly! Quote: I used to roll hunt when there was silver coins and drive to Vancouver and load up on rolls, when picking was good Yes! and get a lil' harassment from the border games agents on occasion. Good times. I still roll search a bit on vacation...slim pickens as of late. Wife shops, I roll search...it's kinda fair...besides the cost, but considering 4-5 hours in a clothing shop is torture to me, it evens out. Thanks everyone for the comments! I'll post the nickels when I get 'em done.

What a great collection and what a great way to display the coins! I think the trays look fantastic... I certainly don't think you have to worry about how much more the trays cost...
Think about difference in price from putting the coins into a unisafe booklet... now think about how much pride you have showing your collection in those trays! I would say it's worth it for sure!
