I'm considering a set of low-ball Walkers ... figured I would start my sharing of the coins with the series key date. Do know that PCGS has certified 347,000 Walkers ... with 84 at FR02 and zero at PO01. You should know by now my true enjoyment of honest low-ball coins ... Hence the present example of the series key date ... which if not PO01 .... then there will never be a PO01. 1921-D Walking Liberty half dollar (PO01/FR02) Honest original surfaces despite the scratches shown in the digital photos ... the date/mm are identifiable ... If this example does not make PO01 then no Walker ever will ... this is as worn as the series can get and still be identified. Thoughts? David

Yep, identifiable well used coin. I'm holding out for one in better shape for my set.

What is it about 1921, a very low mintage year in general and a key date for many series.
It also seems that 1921 has the most lowball coins I have ever seen , Alabama's, Missouri's, Mercs, Standing, Walkers. I have seen so many well worn '21's at auctions,

If that's not P01 I don't know what is. Quote: What is it about 1921, a very low mintage year in general and a key date for many series.

I have seen so many well worn '21's at auctions, 1921 was pretty much all about Dollars, with the three Mints combined producing over 86 million of them after not having minted that size for circulation since 1904. That was well over twice the number of Dollars ever minted in one year prior, and must have been an extreme burden on all aspects of production. All three Mints were in on the fun. It's one of the reasons for my fascination with 1921 Dollars - all I can see are innumerable Mint employees driven to drink. So, every other silver circulation issue was underproduced and circulated all the more heavily as a result.

Pretty nice coin for the lowball collectors out there. I found this one on Vamworld earlier this year another good one! 1885-CC Morgan. Kind of like the idea of finding certain coins in the lowest possible condign yet still identifiable and not detailed up with damage.

there has always been something appealing about old, worn coins that capture my attention. regeradless if they are rare or key series dates. they sort of have a "story" that wants to be told. something like a very old person. worn, used - but full of value, both sentimenatl, and genuine.
i respect and enjoy their contrubition to our existence.

I could not find the words to say it better dbrablec ... Quote: something like a very old person. worn, used - but full of value, both sentimenatl, and genuine.
I truly enjoy honestly circulated coins that have served their time in commerce and are full of stories of how they came to be. Imagine the stories of how these came to us today ... such is the joy of low-ball coins. David

With all due respect westcoin ... why are you continuing to hijack my thread with your coin and commentary on it? I would prefer that you leave my thread to my coin. Please feel free to start any new thread you wish to discuss any appropriate topic. Quote: How much you think it's worth? $25? $40? Likely quite a bit more than that ... and if I can get it in a PCGS PO01 then the sky is the limit to dedicated lowball collectors. Mind you ... there has never been a PCGS certified PO01 Walker ... and I very much doubt they will create such a beast for this coin. It's off to PCGS shortly ... will update when the results are known. David

I am no expert with lowballs, but I think the device details on the 21-D are too strong for poor. I think it would be nearly impossible to get a poor grade on a walker because the date would probably not be legible on a coin worn enough for the grade. I hope I am wrong for your sake. Good luck with the submission.
