Will this get a 'Details' or a 'Cleaning' grade? Kinda looks cleaned at some point to me. What do you think? Thanks. Ed

Looks around F-12. I'm not sure about cleaning. But might get a details scratched.

looks vf details to me. possible scratching, environmental damage and cleaning. A valuable coin, but could do much better in the eye appeal department for that grade

I think if it has been cleaned it was a very long time ago. The biggest thing that hurts it now is the scratches. I still like it though. F to VF details.

johnny....Not sure what you mean when you say, "...could do much better in the eye appeal department.." I'm kinda new at this.

Hard to say from the pictures but I'm leaning towards VF

Pictures too small to tell much, F-VF.

All that I mean is that if you were looking to purchase a svdb in this grade, there are many more attractive examples out there in that range....as this is a very available coin, and there usually isn't a lot of price difference.

Thanks everybody, really appreciate it. johnny, thanks for explaining. I'd like to get it graded and sell it, but if it's going to come back with all kinds of problems, will probably just take my chances selling it raw and see what happens Graded problem coins really bug me......especially when they're mine Ed

I would suggest getting it graded even still. It will sell for a lot more, just because people know with confidence that it is authentic and will therefore bid higher. It will also point out the exact problems the coin has, so the person buying will know, and will have no reason to return the coin at a later date. Its just much better for both buyer and seller, as this is a heavily counterfeited coin.

You could also just disclose the problems. Obverse scratches. Possibleold cleaning. That way they know in advance what they are bidding on. I'm not sure if a detail slabbed coin is worth any more than not. Its still a rare coin in any condition. I would think it should still go for the $500-600 range

I'm not sure if it will be called cleaned but I think it will get a details grade. Looks somewhere around a F/VF. I think it would still be worth getting it graded since there are many fakes. Selling it raw, a buyer is likely going to buy it for the value minus the grading fees plus extra to compensate for the risk. At least that is how I would look at it if I were looking to buy this coin.
