Hmm...I looked through my Snow book at the various reverse markers for each die pair--I'm not sure I can narrow this one down any further. Probably an expert like Rick Snow could!

Alright thanks ! Snow 3 is close enough for me. I have a coin dealer trying to find me Snows big attribution guide.

Quote: I guess you don't have the Snow book for 1869? In any case, there are variants within Snow-3: All with Obv 4 in die stages "A", "B", "C", paired with different reverses: "U", "G", "D", "B", "F". This is how Rick Snow names them, based on his analyis of the markers. He has classified them as Snow-3a, Snow-3b, Snow-3c, Snow-3d, and Snow-3e*. OK, then he has done something no other die variety author has done. In every other series I know of a variety is one obv and one rev pairing. Change either one and it is a different variety or die marriage. I guess Indian Head cents are polygamous.

Quote: OK, then he has done something no other die variety author has done. Yep--I suspect what happened is he named the S-3, S-4, S-5 etc. then he found multiple die pairings on the S-3 and was forced into that nomenclature. Quote: Any ideas what this one is ? It's not the normal 1867/67... Yep--it's an RPD! According to my Snow book, it looks to be Snow-4 18/18 (s).

Since the dates were punched in with a single four digit punch, the only way to make that a 9/8 would be to first puch the date in WAY too far to the left and then to punch it in again in the correct position.
