Never mind my remark in your thread in Photography. Nice example of a pricey little issue - I think it came by the grade from a multitude of little marks rather than a few big ones. Great eye appeal for a 61 but fairly graded.

SsuperDdave, what do you mean never mind? I'm sitting in the catbird seat, and mainly to your great photo advice. I'll probably regret posting this in the morning, but when I refer to you as sir I mean it. I can't thank you enough. (I hope this doesn't end up somewhere on the web as a parody of a coin nerd)
Thanks for the input, too.

Tough date. I agree with the assigned grade. That small scratch unfortunately knocked it down substantially. Great coin and nice eye appeal for the grade.

Quote: SsuperDdave, what do you mean never mind? You mentioned there having turned a corner. I asked you to prove it, tongue in cheek, keeping in mind I'd already seen your example in the Testing forum. You're spreading the clear proof all over the Forum. Do me a favor, and drop the information regarding your photography - what equipment you're using, and your lighting/method - into your Photography Forum thread, and we'll work on that last few percentage points of improvement which are left. I think we can do better with slab images; you're surrendering a bit of contrast. But mind you, I'm into "pro-level picky" status about your imaging now.

Holy cow. I snagged one of your images, and it still contained Exif data. Exif is Exchangeable image file format, a standard code for image metadata which is encoded into just about every digital image from the camera. It contains non-personal stuff like camera model and shot settings.
I am astonished at the results you're getting from the camera you're using. It is instantly on my list of inexpensive point-and-shoots suitable for coin imaging.

As mentioned, the marks on the cheek and the scratch in the left obverse field are one reason. I think another is the luster. The Indian cents that I see which grade MS-63/64 or higher tend to have glossy surfaces or a cartwheel kind of like on silver and gold coins. This coin appears to have neither and looks like some of the ones that I see graded between MS-60 and 62.

MS61 is a tough grade for that one. I would have guessed MS62 and maybe even 63. Good eye appeal and strike for a 61.

I would grade this at MS62BN but MS61 is fair too, I'd say due to the little ticks and marks.

I need to work on grading. I was afraid it's not good enough to get a 61. Thanks all.
