Just wondering for those who like their coins in slabs, how many do you have? I would only buy them if I got a good deal, as I always freed them from their encasement, but over the last 3-4 years I didnt have the time to free them, and put them in a draw in my file cabinet to be freed later! well after several years I have accumulated quite a collection of NGC/PCGS graded coins, enough to fill over two draws of the cabinet. not sure how many that is, but I'm thinking of counting them over this weekend, and if I should free them or leave them as they are...

I only have 5 coins in slabs. I prefer raw coins and purchase them from trusted sources.

Zero.
...or lots.
If it was lots I wouldn't let the world know to look in the file cabinet.

Zero, and proud of it! As for your issue to tell you if you would want to keep or break the slab, it would depend on A, your personal preference, B, what the value of the coin is (if I had a $10,000 coin I would probably keep it slabbed!).

All of these options must be considered before breaking a slab (or a few hundred).

5 right now. I like to crack 90% of coins out of their slabs. I keep only high grade Proof or MS examples (MS or PF; 69 and 70) or high value ($300+ in slabs).

I think I have 3--they were all gifts.
The coins I normally collect are seldom attributed.

ZERO

only 3 or 4 in my collection would benefit from slabbing, but if I did that then the rest of my collection would be jealous :)

Wade, for me to solve that problem, I just keep em seperated hahaha I'm saving them for years from now to have proof 69,70's for my kids as many stories I hear of children getting into coin jars etc..be harder for em to spend a slabbed coin on a candy bar hahaha

I only have one slab. I bought it last week from a local dealer. It's only technically a "slab" since it's one of those freebie ungraded sample slabs that PCGS give away as demos. It's got a 2012 American "shield" cent in it.

I only bought it so I can show people at the local coin clubs I go to what a slabbed coin looks like. Most of them have never seen one before.

I have probably just under 10,000 coins - I'm not really sure - but I have no slabs.

I only have one coin that I know was slabbed as it came from the dealer with the old PCGS label. That was a few years back.

Nowadays you do find more British coins that have been slabbed, however the sellers often want daft prices for them. Which isn't to say that if I found the right coin at the right price I wouldn't buy slabbed. But since the rest of my collection is raw, unless I just bought it to sell on later, it would be freed straight away.
