Found this coin in my husband's grandfather's house. Just wanted some input if we should have it checked out or if it looks like it is a replica. I have compared it to many photos online and can't tell.

the letters are too thick and the surfaces look too porus, my moneys on cast mold.
DONT take my word for it though I mainly deal in canadian coins.

Welcome! But definitely one of the many, many cast souvenir replicas, though. Still, a neat reproduction of one the earliest attempts at an American currency.

I have seen a real one of these at the Canadian Currency Museum - this is a not very good replica. The surfaces are mushy and lumpy, which is not usually a good sign (unless you collect cast counterfeits!). Still, it's neat (and affordable!) to have, and an old replica might have a little bit of collector value

Not real...currency is spelled wrong on yours. There is only one R and should be two.

Not real.

However, for clarity, there are real examples of different varieties that include spellings of currency as: CURRENCY, CURENCY, AND CURENCEY respectively.
