My vintage 9008 Whitman folder is loose and I don't want my coins to fall out, so I'd like to upgrade to a new book. I see that the new Whitman books have 65 spaces, but can't figure out what the 65th coin/opening/hole is. My vintage book has 64 openings. Don't want to have to buy another coin to fill it. Just so there's no confusion, I'm talking about the cheap tri-fold cardboard one. Just can't seem to find a picture of all 3 leaves opened. Some new books even claim to have 66 openings. I'm thinking they added the 3-legged and/or the 8 over 7. Thanks. ed

I could not find an image of all 3 leaves either. My Dansco Album has 66 holes labeled. Besides the normal date/mm, it has an opening for 1918-D 8/7 and 1937-D 3-legged. Does your current folder not include those varieties? and maybe the new folder includes one

Thanks. No, mine has 64 openings, and neither of those 2 dates. I'm thinking the newer ones possibly added one or both of those. Guess I'll have to get my hands on one and look at it. Maybe I'll have to start shopping for 2 more coins

Yikes, just priced the 8 over 7...think I'll avoid that hole if possible.

I think I found one that shows the leaves

http://www.coinsupplyexpress.com/90...u-21904.aspx

it has a spot for the 1937-D 3-legged but not the 1918-D 8/7

Fuzzy you are correct. I have a newer 9008 and it does have 66 openings; but only 65 are 'designated'. The last one is blank.

I also wish that mine didn't have that spot for the 3-legged '37.

OK, great. I'm extremely thankful they left the 1918/7 out. Whew! Thanks again.

attic..yeah, I think I just jumped on-board that train too. Just priced the 3-legged, and it's no bargain. I think I'll keep my old folder until I can replace it with a vintage one w/64 holes

Not sure if this will help or not - but the Wizard coin albums are inexpensive - here is a review. I personally lost some nice coins to Whitman folders over the years b/c the backs of them lost their luster. In an arid climate this will likely not be a problem, but I thought I had taken sufficient steps to safeguard against this happening... oh well...

Earle's review is worth the read for anyone who wants to go the album route without spending too much.

Remember that Folders are really not the best place for long term storage of coins. That shine in the back of the slots is glue and if it gets damp, sticks to the coins.

Hey there. You guys seem to be Buffalo nickel collectors. Any of you willing to take a look at my 1916 Buffalo 5c.Cherrypicked from a local dealer. I think it could be the DDO date/Date. Listed on Coinfacts. I am not an expert. The coin is in pretty fair shape Date is visible. But worn I'd say in good condition. Worn enough though to flatten out the details in the date. But all other signs on the coin match up and lead me to believe the possibility that it is the DDO Obverse.

The date from a good angle shows attributes of the like. But I am getting a new Camera set-up soon and only have my phone camera which seems to struggle with details. But sometime catches the magic with the right atmosphere coming together. And Luck . al I can do is repeat the pic taking until the right one comes out. I have tried a Magnifying software program on my phone and seems to do a little better job. I just uploaded the pic the my computer. and will look to edit. What do you say? Can you take a look. If so to respond I will post then in Error and variety forum them let you know. Thanks and I await a response.
