Three years from now will be Canada's 150th birthday. Do you think the Mint or government or whoever would look for suggestions coin wise? Would anyone listen?

I wondered what forum members thought would be good ways to celebrate with circulating coins.

I'd like to see the Dollar Voyageur put on the Loonie that year. I wouldn't mind seeing the 1967 bird, fish, rabbit, etc. brought back. (I guess the dove on the penny stands no chance)!

These are old ideas brought back. Maybe someone has some new ones. I just hope they keep it simple with a few classic coins and don't issue 10 different things of every denomination. Leave that for the non circulating stuff in my opinion.

I wonder how much lead up time there is to this event. Maybe they have already made their decisions.

Something plastic would fit the current monetary theme with security features built into every plastic slug! :)

Now all I can see are the errors. But the concept is sound.

I still love this coin.
I would like to see it as a loonie and a silver dollar

I really love your loonie idea!

I don't have any good photo editing software, but I just had to try with what I got.

Again, nalaberong I love the design.

Let's hope the mint reads this page.

I think two sets commemorative sets are:

1) Fine silver Alex Colville redux
2) Solid gold of the same

The latter would be a hit, I would think. Not cheap, but not extreme either. And would be a nice tribute to Colville, albeit a bit delayed.

I would hope that they also do another full circulation common theme set. Modern artist. But, the mint's style for 20 years is to put out a dozen designs on the 25c, rather than one consistent theme across all the circulation coins.

No comments on the half?

Anyway, I think the Mint should maybe try and avoid flat-out restrikes of old designs: it seems a bit unoriginal. And making new, improved 1-cent coins with the pigeon design, even if they're silver proof, kind of defeats all that "farewell to the penny" showbiz - so I vote that if the pigeon design is brought back, it's on the toonie, so we can still have a 6-coin set.
