I'm not sure if this allowed, but what do you folks think of the looks of this 5c? http://www.ebay.com/itm/32130625382....m1438.l2649I've decided to combine roll hunting and ebay purchasing to complete some sets. I just really dont want to get ripped off on a coin that has been polished. I found quite a few good lookin examples to my untrained eyes. And I dont necessarily need any coins to have a high grading (yet). Its just really hard to know who to trust on ebay. Thanks for your help. And please mods delete this thread if it is not allowed.

Better you ask the membership for opinions. No harm done to my knowledge. But I also do not like the surface. A bit rough. There will be better chances down the road. A tough date, so be prepared to pay more for a nicer example. Patience is tough, but necessary, in this hobby.

Thank you guys for the info. I will wait and keep learning and hunting. I believe I've seen some F and VF ICCS graded for not much more than this coin is going for.
But learning to be patient is HARD lol.

"But learning to be patient is HARD lol."
Maybe this will help. Does the coin "speak" to you or are you engaging in wishful thinking: "It's not so bad." Nothing is worse that regretting a hasty purchase. If you see something wrong with a coin then that is a sure bet that everyone who examines it will come to the same conclusion. I know. I've made a few doubtful purchases myself.

Welcome to the Forum, MacBane.. The coin you was looking at looks cleaned to me, I agree that you can probably find a better one.

The "does the coin speak to me" statement is a great piece of advice. When I looked at that coin, the first thing that came to my mind was doubt. Shoulda just went with my gut feeling. I'm an over-analyzer by nature tho, so the problem is I may never pull the trigger lol. I think I should set price points for each collection I want to achieve. For example, $250 for a 1922 to 2014 nickel set......etc. And then after I achieve that set I may just focus on upgrading the Key dates as I find deals, while working on the next set. I just recently purchased this to get my nickel collection going. What do you think? http://www.ebay.com/itm/15121913667....m1439.l2649

I know its too late b/c its gone. But personally I think a coin in this abused condition is really not worth it on the long run. Something that is naturally worn is another thing, but this one looks like someone messed it up.

IMO the first one will end looking worse in hand than the photos show.
the second one is a bit overpriced, but the seller has "make an offer" option.

This looks familiar to me (5c)..It is legitimate ..but it has undergone a chemical prosses (The bottles are pictured on top of his dryer)..I saw on this site somewhere and redirected to his site, I read about the restoration....It can be done because of the nickel/copper percentages in certain coins..Mostly done with Buffalo nickels.so that they become dateless no more--well that is how it started---definetly a better coin after the process. if you view some of his others....something like new Ni bonded (over) or to coin ......If I find the website I will list it here...not cleaned but restores .....Maybe someone else knows this incredible man.....
