The estate sale people I work with took a very large collection in on consignment over 20 years ago. They told me they rented a safe deposit box at the time & when they put the coins in it was too heavy to lift. These 2 coins turned up when they were moving some inventory. I have to wonder what the rest of the collection looked like. They have offered me these 2 coins at what may or may not be a good price. Unfortunately I don't know enough about them so I'm hoping someone can help me out with grades & especially value. The second coin is labeled 1760 Voce Populi "P" before face. It's approximately 27mm & weighs in at 6.9 grams. It seems to be slightly bent.

Excellent example! P before the face. There is no consensus as to what the P means. I would call it VF.

I ended up buying both coins. Fairly sure I got a good deal even if I don't have any idea what the Rosa Americana is worth.

Which denomination is the Rosa Americana? They were available in Ha'penny, Penny and Tuppence. Edit: Just noticed your separate thread - I'll go there.

Rosa - $25; Voce- $125
Dump the Rosa - steal the Voce ...
One more hole the Rosa would be a humdinger ... a colonial TOY. Seriously ... <BG>.

My 2007 Red Book(only 1 I have) shows a value in VG of the Rosa Americana uncrowned variety as being $900. I understand the hole seriously lowers the value of the coin, that the Red Book shows inflated prices & that the market has changed since 2007. I also know my knowledge of Colonials is virtually non-existent. Despite all that I would think the value should be more than $25.

HA completed auctions show this coin in F to F+ selling in the $250-$400 range. "Stealing it" would be $125.... Just an opinion though.....However if Mr. Lorenzo has any leads on this variety, in this condition, at his price.....I am a buyer....( goes for the Rosa also.)

Colonial Numismatists have varying ideas as to what the P means. The simple answer is nobody knows for sure. Your looking at a nice F+ in my opinion. Value: approx $150
