And to think I'm just a YN. I guess it can happen to anyone. I wonder if Coin World is interested in this kind of stuff....?

Thanks for all the wonderful responses. This is probably a once-in-a-lifetime event that I'll never experience again.
But maybe, you just never know....

Congrats! An amazing cherry pick.
I do think this would allow you to receive a "You Suck!" award on the PCGS forums. Nothing like paying $5 and making 200x+ your money.
Now the real question is....what will you do with your earnings? More coins?

What I'll probably do with my proceeds is buy a new instrument with it. It's time for me to upgrade, but with money being tight, the likelyhood of that happening was near to zero. Now I see that it is entirely possible.

Quote: Yeah, considering it'll fetch a 4-figure price at auction. With the damage on the reverse I don't know it it will do four figures (remember the rarity is dropping) but I would think at least high three figures. Nice to know I called it right on the attribution.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have have a copy of CQR (Copper Quotes by Robinson)? If you do, what does he estimate the retail price of an AG with below-average surfaces to be?
Also, would it be wise or unwise to have a reserve of $1,000? If not, what would be a wise reserve?

If you use the Robinson guide you would go with Grellmans grade of Fair-2. Fair-2 is not listed but AG3 is listed at $750 in Average minus condition. So figure around $500 give or take.

My copy of CQR (20th ed. 2011) does list a price in Fair2 for S-121a. $ 1000 in Average $ 750 in average minus.
(It also lists the variety still as R-7, which Conder says may no longer be the case).
So all in all, yes, a price in the $500-1000 range seems reasonable.

As I said earlier, when I found mine years ago it was the 16th known which already put it in the R-6+ level. There are 14 specimens listed in The Score (national census) and not everything is reported there. I think it could be safely called at best an R-6 now and possibly R-6-. The Breen early date encyclopedia published in 2000 called it an R-6 and listed 16 specimens, and mine in not in that group. I know of others that have turned up since then as well.

I stand corrected by Germanicus, it is indeed listed at $750 in fair-2 for Average Minus condition. Usually AG3 is the lowest listed grade on the page but I see where in the case of the 121a they snuck in the Fair-2. Your coin could realize around $1000 but probably a little less. But, who knows, in this case with a rare variety. A collector may really want this coin and bump up his bid to acquire it.
