There have been a number of post at CCF stating members can not find recent coins from the US. Mint. Most post state, they could not find D or no P dates in their area. Is there a dividing line between what states/banks get their coins/currency from? Are there certain US.Mints these states/banks have to go to?

It is basically based upon what Federal Reserve district you are in. I live in Mississippi and we are supposed to be in the Atlanta district which would get coins from Phili. but we only get new boxes from Denver. Go figure!

I've always been amazed at how regionalised recent US coins are - I went on a great tour of the National Parks a few years ago, in a big circle starting and finishing in Denver, and got practically no Philadelphia coins at all in a fortnight! But on my recent Florida vacation I saw hardly any Denver coins...

We hardly ever get Philly coins in the west. I have to have Philly ones shipped in.

Montana here... Philly coins are hard to come by that is certain... I just dug into my Jefferson's and found an interesting thing in the 1949's ... sorry here's a bunch of numbers... 1949 (p) 60.7 million... I have 7 1949 D 36.5 million... I have 4 1949 S 9.7 million... I have ... AN Entire ROLL!... no joke, that's not even counting the 3 or 4 I have in sets, that's just the extras ! I have seen on the State Quarter search posts that sometimes an entire series is missed out on in some areas... like the Hawaii Volcano that I can never shake (got 2 in my last roll, both in AU-BU at least) and some people have to beg and buy to get them. I think the mint does it just to mess with us

mcshilling, when you say upper mi. are you talking about the UP? I am retired and spend the summers in the UP and hope to find upgrades for some of my Jefferson's there this summer.

i get mostly philly coins from wells fargo in brinks boxes and some denver (not much) from td bank in same town in florida when I get uncirculated bank boxes. But in florida tourists bring all circulated coins into mix.
Whenever I get enough posts to trade I would trade Philly for Denver for people

I'm right where you would cross from MI. to N. ON. that's why I collect both country's , it's easier to collect US than Canadian.

I'll be on the Keweenaw Peninsula, 30 miles north of Houghton. I'm assuming that the availability of Philadelphia minted coins should be the same there as in the Soo.

It's fun to watch how the coins are distributed and how it changes over the years. Right now the Chicago area is getting Philly coinage but just a few years ago it was Denver. This are must be exporting coins right now because the Denvers take many months to filter into change and they are worn when seen.
Generally whichever mint is closer supplies coins but they have numerous ways to divide mintages and ship coins. When you see something different be sure to grab it because every example might be right where you're at and it's otherwise rare. Varieties end up in a single location and much of the 2009 dime mintage apparently went to Puerto Rico.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
