I got this set a while back at a show. It really is a beautiful set and I would strongly recommend getting one. I have heard that the 69s are actually rarer than the 70s.

Yes they are quite beautiful, although I couldn't possibly spend that much on what I consider to be bullion. I mean I know the value is there but I would rather put that much into a coin of numismatic value. If I had a few grand to spend on coins then this would definitely be on the purchase list.

That is true. I consider these to be Numismatic coins along with the proofs. I consider the BU ones to be bullion and I buy them accordingly.

Zxcccxz...isn't the market premium the numismatic premium? If you say a 1909-S-VDB has numismatic value, isn't that just the value above face value or the value of its metal content? How are you mentally differentiating the difference in numismatic value between modern limited edition and any other older coin?

Good looking set. Did you get the OGP along with it or just the slabbed coins?

Ummmm, clearly these coins are not simply bullion and DO cqrry numismatic value. Otherwise you could get them for the same price as a of silver from the ground. I can see that point on the standard"bullion" coins issued in the green monster boxes. I dont really agree, but I see the point.
These coins? Really not a valid argument IMO.
Collector, I love this set as well. The enhanced coin is totally awesome.

If you subscribe to the "bullion" position on the ASE, do you also look for 1916D Merc's for $0.10... Or shoot for the moon with spot value?

@CoinCollector2012, that's cool. The OGP isn't worth all that much and probably just kind of takes up space but it's still a nice thing to have for the set. Maybe you could use it to store pocket change. :) So I just checked around and ungraded sets are selling for around $150-$180 in OGP. Considering they sold new for $140, that's not much of a profit, especially with ebay listing fees, PayPal fees, and free shipping (on some). It's a nice-looking set and has the first enhanced uncirculated ASE so I figured there would be a bit more of a premium. But yes, even at $150 there is definitely numismatic value in these coins. Take $10 off for the OGP and that's around $70/coin minimum, which is ~3.2x spot currently.

I forgot to mention I love the RP Eagles. Absolutely beautiful coin and I am all for anything that gets more of them out there. Quote:It's a nice-looking set and has the first enhanced uncirculated ASE so I figured there would be a bit more of a premium. Thats really the problem with the mint to demand thing. I'm honestly comfortable saying more were bought to be flipped than bought by collectors. HSN bought 10 percent of the total mintage on their own and just run the numbers on how many other sites and dealers were buying these. There could be a premium one day but the market is way to saturated with these and the 70s are the norm so you dont even have the grade rarity like the other years. A physical store may be able to get a premium but its not happening on ebay with everyone selling there. Interestingly enough though the 70s did get up close to 400 at first until it was apparent there would be no shortage like the year before and they came back down

Oh boy...this thread... IMHO, these coins are amazing and should fetch a numismatic premium, and are a serious collectors coin...and not standard issue it would be like saying a 1950 BU ms65 franklin is the same as a 1950 pf65 franklin and thats just not the case altho minted and used the same year the proof set was just that a low mintage proof struck coin intended for numismatic collection and for other collecting reasons same as a gorgeous reverse proof silver eagle hence the special packaging and yes the additional premium attached not a apples to apples comparison,

It is a very nice set. I have 10 of them (6 NGC/4 PCGS). The Enhanced Uncirculated is definitely different....
Prices (for sets)are all over the place.PCGS and NGC 69's sell for around $150-175 and the 70's from $240-290

I paid $185 for mine. Is this a fair price?

Based on a quick ebay search, $185 is the high end of recent completed auctions for a PCGS MS69/PR69 set, but that's not terribly unreasonable IMO. @basebal21 - good point on the mint to demand.

CC12 do you like them? Does it feel like a good deal to you? Cause thats what matters personally I think ya did great but thats just me. And my opinion I've overpaid for quite a few must haves but I'm not buying for profit I am buying to enjoy and have nice conversation pieces with plus its neat history. I have 4 2014 bu eagles I stuffed in air tites just so people can tounch em and feel the weight. I think your RP's are amazing and look great slabbed together! Simply put...AWESOME!
