Here is another one I added to the collection. I really enjoy the eye appeal on these coins.

What say you oh faithful brethren of the numismatic order?

Thanks for looking

MS-63 or 64 would be my guess

I like the peripheral toning on this dime.

The obverse looks nice with what look to be semi prooflike surfaces but the reverse surfaces look rough. Some strike weakness with an old cleaning (?) and some deep peripheral retoning too. I'm goin with ms61.

Maybe I'm far off. I look forward to your in-hand opinion of this nice piece.

MS62 I agree with errorcoins222 on it being lower end grade of uncirculated, maybe a slight push for the color, but I think it's lower grade mint state. I thought it might be proof at first but I don't think San Francisco was making proof coins then, so its gotta to be a business strike. The reverse is why I'm holding back so much almost looks cleaned and retoned, though I'm betting this coin is not in a details holder. It does have a nice look to it.

I don't believe that this is a Branch (S) Proof. It's really nice...I'd give it a MS63.

Check for a Repunched Mint Mark!

great job knowing your proof issues lads!

ohih8, not an F-104 but most likely a die state of an F-108a, which are known polished dies that gave off a proof like appearance. The strike weakness of the reverse left wreath is a clue to Reverse H being used by the mint here although in an earlier die state as the degeneration of the reverse has yet to lead to the cracks that would appear in later and more terminal die state.

I do not believe this coin was ever cleaned and retoned over. I think we see plenty of die lines due to the polishing aspect of this die marriage on both the obverse and reverse.

Thank you all for the time you took to comment and guess on this one.

**Edit**

errorcoins and West, awesome guess at the actual grade. Well called by you experts!

Here is a great shot of the PL surfaces for you:

Can't call myself an expert on this series yet! Heck I got your last one wrong as a proof. But I am learning, how do you rate the Kamal M. Ahwash second edition book (1981 printing) is it worth getting or should I stick with the Fortin website as my reference source?

Fortin has expounded greatly on what Awash did, I mean light years with regards to identified majors and sub-minors. Greer's 1991 Encyclopedia is also a step ahead of awash but Greer picked up where Awash left off after his untimely death. And on the web book you can see the designations for "A", "G" and "F" within the varieties tables. I am up to 5 plate coins in the web book and I find that exciting. I even discovered a sub-minor in summer 2012. Sorry for the egomaniac pat on the back but hey...

I own both the Awash and Greer books as they have significance to me beyond the studying. I'm such a fan of the series and I like having the original reference material and seeing the evolutions from master to master within the chronology.
