@ double, I call it as I see it and its my opinion and apparently that of others aswell. When you see pedigree getting grades that non pedigree submitters dont get there's an issue...When an unknown as myself submits and gets a lower grade than deserved and yet the same coin is resubmitted my a collector who is very well known and there's a difference of 2 points you tell me . Call it mistakes on the graders part ? not likely.. Call it biased grading depending on who sends it in ? Funny why you dont say anything about anyone else who has the same feeling and I am sure there are many others out there who feel the same about TPG's in general..... Point in fact the 36 dot mentioned here... |

Six months later, I see this coin is still sitting raw on ebay priced at MS64+ money. I am curious what PCGS, NGC or CCCS said about it. Did you try submitting it to any of those services, artdio? |

I'll be brutally honest in hopes that it benefits artdio, but I think ICCS was probably close to correct at AU58. After reading this thread I certainly wouldn't touch the ebay coin as raw. Asking 64+ money for a raw coin at this price level is risky business. Does anybody spend US$6500 on an ungraded coin without thorough research? And $18.99 shipping on top of that? ha.com has this PCGS MS64 http://coins.ha.com/itm/canada/worl.../419-50491.s - just as a novice grader/investor I can see significant technical differences. I do appreciate the excellent pictures on ebay, but with such a small amount of research on my part, if I was a buyer I would run away when faced with the enormous disparity between the asking price and what I see as the actual grade/value. I have no idea whether the ebay seller and the OP are the same person - for all I know the coin changed hands since this thread began, but clearly it's the same coin here http://www.ebay.com/itm/1910-EL-CAN...m19f740a360. |

Just curious - how much magnification does ICCS utilize? How much weight is given to the naked eye look at a high condition coin? I ask as I understand Brian would grade a coin like this in just a few seconds.

Good question re: magnification, I'm curious myself. I previously asked ICCS about grading methodology relative to eye-appeal, to which I was flatly told they don't consider it whatsoever. They claim their grading methodology is purely technical.

58... I don't have the coin in hand so maybe the "pros" are seeing something that the photos don't show. curious to know why if art is so certain that the assigned grade is so far off why it wasn't resubmitted? if it hasn't sold for 64 money then... it's not a 64...
being I'm not in the inner circle I can't say for certain, but would hope that when coins get graded that they are being processed anonymously (the graders don't know who submitted the coin) so as to avoid any favoritism or biased?
either way, nice coin (just not 64 nice)

Ahh... I see this topic is revised again. Let me restate my opinion of this one. The field on this coin are nice, fairly mark free, there are some small hits here and there however, this is an MS quality coin. That is, low MS. I am definitely not of the opinion that this is even close to making the 64/65 range. There is luster but it is subdued. Furthermore, what I see is what looks like some cabinet friction on the sideburns. This coin is definitely a 61 in my opinion but a AU-58, like ICCS said is not out of the question.

A very high MS-64 in my opinion. This is the same as politics, a president or politicians really have no real power, it is the huge G.M.O and pharmaceutical companies in which have the reign over a country... A local coin dealer told me a story of his friend that sent some coins to ICCS and came back all at least a half grade higher than thought because he claimed the coins to be from J@M vancouver.

There is a clear and obvious transition from the luster quality in the legend to the luster in the fields. This is not consummate with the surfaces an uncirculated coin, in my opinion, and some of the tiny impairments are not those inflicted by other coins in a bag. I could tell from the first picture I saw of the obverse that it wasn't going to get an MS grade. It's a very, very nice half that has seen just a touch of circulation.
If you're dead set that it's an MS-64, submit it to PCGS and remove all doubt.
