To me, the (lack of) detail and the ugly stains make it fake.

Yeah its strange, I can't really tell myself. - Details isn't to bad, but I know what you mean. Specially with the rust,but you can't really tell if it's fake just by saying it has rust/stains on. Is there any other ways to determind if it's fake or not?  Edited by reece3221

Unfortionitely, it's absolutely a fake.. Lol, it's pretty easy to tell, because as Condor said they didn't start minting Trade dollars until 1873 so this is an "impossible"'date... Making it undoubtably counterfeit. Chinese counterfeiters need to do a bit more studying as they seem to make "impossible" dated coins all too often... But easy to detect fakes this way so that's good for us at least, lol. |

Before even getting to the design, my initial thought was: "Hey........I didn't know that Trade dollars were around in 1871." Yep,  that it's a counterfeit for sure. |

100% Fake. As stated above, 1873 was first year minted.

I have seen several impossible date coins like a 1941 Morgan and a 1906 ASE. If the Chinese are going to make all of these fakes, they should at least do a little research first.  Edited by CoinCollector2012
