A regular customer at the store where I work knows I collect coins, and the other day he brought some coins in cardboard holders in to show me. One of them was this dateless monstrosity. He gave me the dime which was very kind of him. The planchet is distorted and the strike is very off center. It's a clad dime, and appears to be uncirculated. Have you ever seen a dime (or any other coin) like this? About what is it worth? I'm not going to sell it, as it was a gift but I'm curious to what it is worth. This is one of the strangest coins in my collection.

That's what is called an "off-center" error.
The planchet was struck off-center to the die, hence the off-centered look.
Looks about 50% off center to me.
They are generally more valuable retaining the date and the mintmark, but even with the date/MM missing, it should be worth a few bucks.

Nice coin...

Roosevelt dimes that are off-center value will vary based on percentage off and if there is date and mint mark visible if they are silver, clad and the coins condition.

On a silver Roosevelt dime with is between 1945-1964 20-40% go for $30 â€" $75 and 40-90% go for $50-80 on average more if graded or in Au/MS condition could got for more.

yours is a newer Roosevelt dimes (1965-present) would go for 20-90% go for $6-20

Looks like a clad coin. I love how you can see the edges of outside die circumference in the center of the coin. Nice find.

Could I add your images to my educational files?

Another use for this error is a side by side showing the edge of die and the faked double struck using a vise. When you see these side by side, you know the real deal when you see it.
