I feel like I should give up on Peace dollars. I enjoy the challenge of identifying a ms coin raw but the dies are so mushy it's a blurry line. I love the interpretation of lady liberty and the reverse, but can I just say this coin has a stigma of being poorly made? Granted, that makes ideal specimen even more valuable but I'm not at that level of the market. I'm so frustrated with sorting through au yellowed common date coins that I think I've lost my reason. So what is yours for continuing with this coin?

I'm at the point where I'm only looking for examples that are clashed. Otherwise, it's what you've already stated, mass production ruined that coin for me. I don't even have any desire to finish putting together a set at his point.

I collect them because I collect foreign coins by type, so I had to have one in my collection.

Because they are a coin and I collect coins. Pretty simple.

I feel your pain, stev18. I sort of see it the same way, that they're boring to a large degree, and even the best ones don't dazzle like a lot of Morgans can. I'll continue to stack them as higher grade bullion when the price is right. But enthusiastically seeking them out, I'm long past that.

I totally get what you're saying. Had the same problem a few times. Especially when I first started collecting, had a few dealers sell me AU Peace dollars as MS and then now I have trust issues when buying borderline coins, even from reputable dealers. I too, gave up on putting a set together, I just have one Peace of each mint in MS and a couple circulated ones that I picked up on the cheap.

Now that's an exceptionally well struck and lustrous Peace dollar. It makes for an effective argument in their favor.

I collected them because it is a short set. It didn't take particularly long to complete. And for me this was a "fun set" meaning they didn't all have to be MS. My set has a handful AU's; nice balance between quality and cost.

Because I haven't found a 1921 that satisfies me yet. This is OK but took 20 years to find It's one of the best US coin designs IMO, but very poorly executed. For that reason I continue to buy the same common dates over and over if they're well-struck. MS66 does not guarantee this. Overpriced bad strikes are the norm for Peace slabs. I would pass on classiccoin's 1934 example but am in the market for srs77's 1923.

Sometimes I take coins to a family gathering and invariably, almost to a person, they are drawn to the Peace dollar. Beautiful obverse.

I just love Blast White Peace dollars it is one of my favorites to search for. Lately common date Peace dollars have come done some and even semi and key date and in my opinion are now 20% to 30% under valued. Below is my favorite look for a Peace dollar to have I also, like some rim toned Peace dollars. What does everyone else like to look for in a Peace dollar. *** Edited by Staff - Please Review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. LAST WARNING ***

Actually I think they're a neat coin to collect and tend to be quite affordable on the whole. Now saying that I own 18 of these beauties and 67 Morgans.. Finding what I call acceptable Peace dollars is a little more difficult than Morgans. But that's half the fun. It's in the journey of finding them. But that's just me
