This to me has , like a coin, two sides to this topic. I am sure happy for you to have made this find through Your GF'S Mom, That's Great.... I also see that a man, obviously uneducated to the coins composition's value goes into a store to sell the roll of Silver ( 90% ) Quarters and was HAPPY to receive the $40.00 in return for the roll. I am thinking about the many options this man had and choose this one for the cash. I really think that IF you found out your Dad or brother brought the roll to a store to sell for face value your Mindset would be a very different one than it is now. I am NOT trying to rain on your Find, but there is a man, who obviously needed the money and sold the roll, NOT knowing the full value of HIS property and that is a sad thought that especially the elderly are selling coinage for currency to survive and some, like this man, have no clue as to Exactly what is the Real value of the coins HE cashed in............ Happy for you and your Big Score, thoughts go out to the man who really needed the money and because he was NOT aware of the real value, has less than 10% of what he should of had, had he known the lesson of coins and there value in Todays market...........Enjoy your found silver 160 Quarters.........  |

Nice addition to your collection!! I came across $40 in silver quarters about 30 years ago. What a terrific find!! I ended up passing out quarters to folks I worked with if I had their birth year that day; spread some of the good fortune.
In CT, dealers have to take a picture of the silver exchange along with a picture of your photo ID. Folks who don't want to go 'on the record' don't cash out with dealers, so they accept face value for the exchange at banks and stores. To pass on silver value might generally mean that those cashing in silver got it by 'unauthorized means'. And as we all know, there are those who view a quarter as a quarter, so material content is ...immaterial.
