Two questions whats the grade and do you think the Verdigris can be helped. Might as well ask if there are any guesses on the Sheldon number.

That's pretty green. I'd say the verdigris is still active. Soak it in acetone for an extended period to kill it. F-VF details.

Well, Vermontensium and Supgog that was quick. I figured you all would be sleeping. Thanks. As far as an extended time period how long are you talking. I gotta say acetone scares me when it comes to 200 year old coppers.

Why does acetone scare you? It is the SAFEST solution for conserving coins that I have used.

Fine to Very Fine details. A tip for acetone with coppers, when sunlight shines on acetone with copper in it, the coin will be discolored. Experiments have proven this and I've seen pics of Community members that have ruined copper coins this way. However, for safety, don't compromise your ventilation when using acetone to avoid light.
One way to do this is to treat the coin in your garage with the door wide open to avoid light that will cause the reaction while still letting in oxygen. Hope this helps.

F to VF looks to be a correct assessment of this lovely old large cent.

Water vapor must also be present for this to occur, and if a CCF member ran afoul of this reaction and posted it here, I've never heard about it. Could you provide a link?

I use no water of any kind when conserving coins with acetone, I always do this outside in the direct sunlight, never had an issue where a coin changed color. I've left some soak for more than an hour sitting in the sun too.

I have had copper coins soak in acetone for days with no issues. Completely safe.
