looks like PMD. Maybe someone used a flat-bladed screw-driver or a punch for the letter I

looks like it got pressed onto some metal somehow.
maybe it was on a piece of metal and got stepped on.

The dents appear to be parallel, maybe this refutes the screwdriver hypothesis? I agree that this is PMD, but it could have been caught in a machine of some sort. Hmmm...
