My first woodie purchase! This was slabbed by PCGS, and I cracked it out for my album. Honestly, I think PCGS overgraded this one, but the price was low enough, combined with the coolness factor of my 1st woodie, so I decided to keep it anyways. Your grade? Guess on PCGS grade?

Can't tell if it's AU or MS, but it's a details coin thanks to that spot of PVC on the reverse under the lowest right side arrow. At least until that's removed, it's a details coin. After, well...

Looks MS63 to me. PCGS 64. The woodgrain pattern tends to soften the over-all look. Great looking coin.

MS63 and a nice woodie. The brassy metal doesn't flow as well as the copper.

Thanks for the comments. PCGS graded it MS63, so many of you got it right. The detail and surface as far as hits go look fine for the grade, and it looks original. What made me think the coin was overgraded, and maybe this is just something specific to woodies.....the coin is completely lackluster. No cartwheel, even in the protected areas....which surprises me for an MS63. Is it common for MS woodies to not have luster, or not have noticeable luster anyways?

My guess would have been MS-63 BN. I have seen a few lincolns and maybe a Two Cent with woodgrain that had very good cartwheel luster but those might just be above average coins. Though it doesn't have eye popping cartwheel luster, it does have a decent glossy surface. How clean are the surfaces? The woodgrain might be hiding a few more marks but if what is seen in the pictures is all there is, it probably could have graded higher but was held back back for lacking a cartwheel.

The surfaces are exceptional(very few if any marks), the details are strong...no evidence of cleaning or foul play...there is just absolutely no luster...or very very little luster to the point that it is not noticeable without a loupe and a strong light source. That just strikes me as odd, I have never seen a coin graded that high with no luster. I would have gone AU55 or 58 for that reason, given the fact that the other exceptional qualities of the coin pull it out of the XF range.

I would have also guessed 63. Again, please give us more time in the future before revealing the grade. Thanks.
