Does the CCF ebay reporting link not work at all anymore? I used it not too long ago and got no response.

I would NEVER buy a major numismatic item on ebay unless it was from the sellers I have bought extensively from or trust.. Anycoin that has anything more than the simple " pay and shipped" is no good... Buyers beware..this is why a good LCS is neccesary! Just be careful my friends!

This guy doesn't know what he's selling.... The description says "1879-S PCGS MS-63", the photos it's koala bear, and the description simply says "ANACS certified Morgan dollar 1879-S"..... Soo.... Which is it?.. because I'll gladly pay $60 or BO for a baby koala... Lol

ebay reassigned the employees that addressed the counterfeit, fraudulent coin/currency listings. You can report all you want but nothing is going to happen. The fraudulent listings are only scheduled to run for 1 to 3 days so by the time somebody at ebay is aware of a problem the listing has already ended. If they are quick enough they can place a hold on any PayPal funds that have not been released to the fraudster. ebay has turned into a free-for-all, do-what-you-want Wild West show --- again!

ebay is not only complicit, it was a deliberate choice on their part. I urge you all to screencap these auctions, or to save the listing pages/images (as your computer skills allow), so we can build a case to prosecute them.

I have no idea how much an 1889CC costs. I'm the novice in the family. But dude, I would NEVER buy something with a title like that and a listing that says "If you don't buy now the price will be 20 times higher."
You don't necessarily have to know what you're doing when it comes to buying coins. But you do need to detect bogus listings, on any item when you see it, to prevent being scammed.

Quote: Does using 0LD ge.nu.ine in the title clear them from requiring that the coin be old or genuine? This is so obvious that it's a scam, I'm not sure how anyone bid. Just the fact that they mention that they are from the US tells me that they are not. They may have relatives here that do the shipping for them. It also says it is a 1.8.8.3 not an 1883. So I guess maybe that's their thinking. I'm not sure it matters given that they are shipping from outside the country so the chance of law enforcement even trying to track them down is about as high as them getting struck by lightning.

I like SSDD's idea and will start screen shotting things I see. When someone is has a plan to move forward, I will happily forward my images.
Oh, and NathanASE, I will wrestle you for the koala!

They're the low-mintage Kings of the series, worth astronomical premiums and therefore the easiest bait to dangle in front of unsuspecting marks who've only learned the first few words about Morgan collecting.

It's hard to understand how many buyers line up to buy these. Of course you don't have to pass a test to be an ebay buyer.

Just go on Alibaba.com and punch in any rare Morgan that You want. They're like a dollar apiece. The scary thing is that You can order them made out of 90% Silver. Then I punched in PCGS, and it said "Coming Soon". Very soon Alibaba.com is going to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange! The sad thing is, it will probably be a great stock, because they sell worldwide.

There have been numerous news articles over the past severl years detailing how the Chinese have transformed counterfeiting (of all sorts) into an national industrial enterprise. The British certainly did the same in the 19th century, but their motive was mostly geopolitical, to undermine their adversaries' currencies, not fraud per se. What they didn't have and what exacerbates and amplifies the current situation is internet commerce sites without scruples to streamline and maximize distribution.
And by the way, the fake PCGS slabs - not "coming soon", they're already out there.

Even at 20 times higher than $88.00 which would be $1760 that would be a steal, the coin shown is probably an MS64 or better 1889-CC which catalogues around $105,000.
