I bought this from ebay at $43.99 (shipping included). I would like to hear your input on the grade. Thanks for looking!

EF40 to me, there is definite wear but the strike is not that full, see the leaves on the reverse in the wreath, they are not fully struck up. The coin still seems to have some luster though, I imagine it was dipped or over dipped at one point and the toning is fairly recent (past 5-10 years) from sitting in an album. That is why the edges are darker. Other than that, there seems to be no major hits or dings to the coin so that is a plus. If the strike was stronger this might go EF45 or even AU. On common date Morgans I personally try to only pay close to spot pricing + a small premium for EF/AU coins. You may want to try your hand at figuring out which VAM this is, 1885 has a few better ones that collectors are searching out. http://www.vamworld.com/1885-P+VAMs

Easy XF45 IMO that might stretch to AU50.

Uh...
This coin is uncirculated. I'd call it a 63 due to mediocre luster and some scrapes.

Maybe some better pics depicting the luster will help!

Looking at it on my laptop, nevermind about unc, it's AU. Solid AU, though, not low AU.

High to mid AU. I have never seen an XF Morgan with luster.

Is there a large X across the cheek? I have it at AU53 but something is telling me it was overdipped at one time and retoned

The photos aren't ideal, and I concur with the observation that the strike might not be so hot to begin with, and it does appear to me that there are traces of original luster, but I still see just too many spots in the hair that look to be flattening to be generous with a grade. If it avoids XF, I'd say it just squeaks in at AU50.

Yes I will bump up to AU50/53 due to the luster, I was being too harsh on the grade. I was looking at this coin after being up all night with a case of insomnia. It's certainly not an EF, but the rest of my opinion stands, weaker strike, probably dipped and re-toned.
