finally got up to my family's lake property for the first time since buying my fisher F2. I've been eying an old ravine on the property since I was a kid, could barely sleep the first night.

Ravine-Dig

the very first tone was a big one, started digging, about a foot down heard the "scrape" and the shovel fell in about a foot. hand dug the area and found the edge of a large (2.5 gallon?) metal tin box. my heart was pounding.

Ravine-Dig

dug, dug and dug some more, jammed my hand in the can with dreams of the california gold hoard running through my head...

came up ...

Ravine-Dig

EMPTY

the rest of the ravine did yield an 8 lb cast iron window weight, several tin cans, an old hinge, and the usual handful of nails & misc trash.

my kids caught the detecting bug and while I was washing away my disappointment they set off treasure hunting on their own.

they came back with a single coin

Ravine-Dig

and said they also found a spot with 10 old rusty tin cans. I went back to their spot in the morning and started digging. dozens more cans later, none identifiable except this one, Player's Tobacco

Ravine-Dig

but the treat of the day was 4 bottles at the bottom of the camp dump, 2 of which are fully intact (including corks)

Wyeth & Bros (medicine) & BC Liquor Control Board , both from around 1930.

Ravine-Dig

pretty cool that the best artifacts aren't even metal detectable !

still over an acre to go (next year)

Looks like a great piece of land. (I'm just a wee bit jealous about that! LOL)

Metal detecting is just plain fun to do...anything you find that might have some value is just a bonus.

Love the old bottles.

the mexican peso was devalued in 1993, making this 1988 actually demonetized and only worth a few cents. (but yes, a current 100 peso is worth about $8)

I suspect my nieces were playing the tree house near by & it ended up out of one of their pockets (they've been to mexico several times)

Cool finds, looks like you hit on the junk pit that slowly washed down the ravine over the years, those bottles are super! Have you tried down at the bottom or in the water by the end of the runoff of the ravine yet? Maybe some coins made it all the way down.
