A quick thought is that it may have been run over ( by car or truck ). Had similar thing happen at the mill with a forklift and a quarter.

well, what's weird is that the lines run outward in a circular pattern that are completely symmetrical and there's no damage to the middle. also, the obverse has no damage to it. for how much damage there is on the reverse and none on the obverse, it makes me think mint error. but I'm not familiar enough about the minting process to know what could have happened.

Take a centaur of your pocket and lay it in your concrete driveway, drive your front tire over it and stop, next turn your wheels left and right (with the cent centered under the tire). Back off and recover the cent.

You should get close results similar to what you already have with your damaged cent.

The coin was badly damaged on the reverse while the obverse was probably against something that rotated with the coin protecting the obverse side. It's PSD and not an error coin.
