I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong area. I wasn't quite sure where it belongs. I can delete and repost if someone tells me where it belongs. Anyways, I spotted this Ad on Craigslist and wanted to know if I should purchase them or not. I'm a beginner and I don't have any proof sets but I want some. http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/...7298253.html Thanks.

I don't see any silver bars. I personally avoid craigslist for anything coin related. $50 depends on those sets.

Thank you. I've never bought from anywhere other than a LCS so I didnt know whether to trust it and buy them or not. I appreciate the helpful opinion though.

I don't see much more then $25 worth of value there, assuming that the Kennedy halves are not silver (add $5-10 more if they are). Looks like a heavily worn Shield nickel, holed large cent, a couple of 90% silver halves, and a bunch of other modern junk. From what I've seen in local coin shops and auctions, never overestimate the value of low end items since they are so easy to find elsewhere cheaper.

If you want proof sets, go to ebay.....they are sold by the thousands there. Even if you are in a hurry (which I don't recommend) you can get a pretty good deal on them. Do an advanced search on sold listings for the years you are looking for to see what they are selling for, and shoot for the low end of the price range. Free shipping is always nice. In my experience the prices will drop in Nov and Dec due to the holidays.

This is not a good deal. On ebay you can get proof sets for the years of your choice and you can see the actual coins that you will receive.

I've never shopped on ebay and was sketchy on it because I'm not experienced enough to tell a fraud from a real coin. Still trying to learn. But thank you everyone. I'll definitely give that a shot. (:

ebay is much better than craigslist. I get great deal on craigslist as long as you know what you are looking at. Not everyone on there is a scam artist, thief, degenerate. Always meet in a public place. I actually got a bunch of high end morgans and 2 gold coins from craigslist. Everything checked out fine.

as a bigger you should avoid both of those web sites. ebay is a sort of scarry place for someone that is not aware of all the things that go wrong. And don't for get you sometimes end up spending a lot more than you think. Pay Pal fees, ebay fees, insurances, postage, handling, etc. Your best method would be to look up a local coin show or coin club. At coin shows I see Proof sets all the time for a fraction of ebay's prices and none of those extra charges.

I've been to a few LCS and all of them are rude to beginners. If I ask questions about the coins they tell me to either buy a book or Google it. The only store that was nice and didn't mind helping is the one that's the farthest away. Go figure. But I'll go back Saturday and see if I can get a proof set or two. Thank you everyone for your time and helpfulness. It's very hard to find nice help nowadays.
