Because of the war, this and the 1914 $10 were the last circulation gold coins that Canada produced.

A quartet of German 10 pfennig coins. By mintmark, these were struck (from left to right) at Munich, Dresden, Stuttgart, and Karlsruhe.

This one originated so fsr from the European battlefields, it's almost off-topic. Peru, ½ dinero. Diminutive (just under 15mm in diameter) but .900 silver. Peru never went so far as to declare war on any of the Central Powers, but did make the gesture of actually severing relations with Germany in 1917.

Does anyone have a 1914 French franc or 2-franc with the "C" mintmark for the emergency mint at Castelsarassin?

Mexico Un Centavo In 1917, Germany attempted to entice Mwxico into joming in the war on the side of the Central Powers in the event the United States (then still officially neutral) should declare for the Allied cause. The reward for Mexico's participation was to be restoration to her of the American southwest, including Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. President Carranza toyed with this notion, and actually referred it to his military leaders, who pronoinced it imprcatical. The proposal, known to history as the Zimmermann Telegram, was intercepted and deciphered by the British, who alerted the U.S. government to the scheme. The whole affair quickly then got leaked to the press, and the incident became one of the factors that nudged American public opinion into accepting her ultimate entry into the war. Mexico remained a neutral for the duration.
