Went to the bank in my hometown yesterday and got $40 in Kennedy halves. When I got home I found;

1967 Toned
1967 regular
2008-S

As well as about 10 bicentennials. Are the 1976 worth anymore than 50 cents?

Also got $20 in cash, and found one of my $10 was a 2009 star note.

I was pretty happy from this bank visit :)

Nice finds, the Bicentennials are pretty common. I am pretty sure if there is a "S" mint mark then the coin is 40% silver.

Yeah was just going to clarify that the bicentennials I found were the regular halves, not silver. But wasn't sure if there were groups of half collectors that just did the 76's or not..

The 2008-S could be either 90% silver or just a clad proof. Most likely it's clad, but worth checking!

Nice finds on the '67 silvers. Almost $6 in silver at current prices. Gotta love free money from the bank!

Nice finds.

The 2009 star note may be worth more that face, but not sure. Why not post the question in the bill section and find out.

76 are the least valuable actually due to the massive mintage numbers and large number of hoarded coins.

CelticKnot - I just took the 2008's weight, it is clad. Still worth more than 50c right?

tkbslc - that is useful info, I actually like the reverse of the regular half more than the 76 anyway.

Them's fighting words!

As far as mintages are concerned, maybe collector value, but there are still some of us that like the simple yet beautiful design of things like Independence Hall on the reverse. So for a collector that likes them, they do have value. I once knew someone that offered me 75 cents each for them but lost track of him or I would have sold him the whole box I just spent last moth of 76s.

Also depends on their condition. If they are well worn might not be much to even someone that likes them, but there could be someone still making belt buckles form alrger coins and might want them for the design.

"Something is only worth what someone else will give you for it."

So if you can get more than $5 out of them, then take it! (Just don't rip someone off on them.)

I guess that your half should have marks for being in circulation which means it is an impaired proof. That been said your coin worth 50 cents. But keep it; you got it at face value. Anyway it is a nice find.

Keep the 2008 until you find something better. You still might want to keep it because it is San Francisco and because there is not a lot of them out there I keep every one I find (no matter the coin) just a means of keeping score for my finds.

Or, it is nonsilver clad. Both "S" compositions were minted in 1976. I have to say the 40% silver is tough to find, in all my years of searching, I've never found either the clad or 40% silver 1976 S.

the 1967 Halves are 40% silver, and there is a chance some of the others are 40% silver. Look at the CCF Coin Facts for weights.
